Letters and Pictures From the New Families!
From Mia's Family: From Luke's Family: My new family is wonderful! I have a new, little step sister, Petula, a 2 year old basset hound whom I love dearly. She loves me just as much and we play almost non-stop. We are left with the entire house to run around in all day, afternoons in the backyard for a few games of fetch and in the late afternoons or evenings we go for a walk with the Mr. and Mrs. After that it's usually up to bed - the older teenagers in the house need me to sleep on the beds at night (You know…keeping away things that go bump in the night.) I'm still a little shy/ scared of a few things but Petula is teaching me quickly there's nothing to be afraid of…the world is our oyster! As soon as I'm more comfortable with my new surroundings my owner will take me and Petula with them when they go to the barn to ride their horse. Petula tells me that is a Blast! My new vet thinks I'm only about two years old and I think he's right because I have the same if not more energy than Petula, who is definitely two years old. I can't wait ‘til Christmas; my stocking is already hung by the chimney with care. I just know Santa is bringing me something good this year! From Ollie's Family:
Ollie's getting more comfortable every day -- he slept in our bedroom last night...he and BeBe, our Golden girl are beginning to play like puppies. We have left them together in the house every day and have had no problems. BeBe barks and runs around in circles and Ollie just ignores her, but he lets her know if she pushes too far! He's a great dog. I traded our pick-up in on a Chevrolet Tahoe so both BeBe and Ollie can ride comfortably with us. A Christmas card From Ollie: With Best wishes for a beautiful New Year "I like my new family and I took over every thing and drove BeBe nuts. Thank you for saving my life." Oliver From Peco's Family: As the proud parents of a 10-month old Golden Retriever, we joined GRRH to support their efforts, but had only a vague notion of someday fostering or adopting another Golden. “Once Travis is older...,” we told ourselves. One afternoon in September, we received a distress call from GRRH: “Could we possibly run to the pound to pay the fee to save a dog’s life?” “Absolutely!” we replied. It sounded simple enough. We walked through the front door, fully intending to pay and leave, attempting to disregard the depressing setting, when our eyes met the sad gaze of a lost-looking, too skinny Golden Retriever, and we knew we weren’t leaving there without him. The word foster entered the conversation, but within minutes it was replaced by the words adoption and forever. Seeing the joy on this dog’s face when his paws first touched the grass only reinforced our commitment. He got a bath, a name – Pecos, a good meal, and met his new brother Travis, who loved him right away. And as it turned out, a new brother was just what Travis needed too. They are inseparable and unbelievably happy together. None of us can imagine life without him. Here’s a photo of Pecos, 20 pounds later, with his brother Travis.
From Riley's Family: Riley came "home" to us about the first of October. We're so happy he's here! Our 13 year old Golden, Lady, wasn't quite sure about him at first but I can't believe how she's brightened up. They play like they've always been together....and she comes back for more! After our other dog died on Good Friday this year, Lady was depressed and after our oldest daughter took her cat back home, after she had been gone all summer, Lady really went into a funk. It took her about a week to begin to play with Riley....he's bigger than she is...but now it's the cutest thing. I don't feel terrible about having to leave her to go do errands or visit someone. I always thought it would be impossible to have another dog because Lady is "the perfect dog", but I want to say that Riley is as close to perfect for us as they come. He's so sweet and good and obedient. Next to Lady, he's the man! And, my husband is ecstatic....the first "guy" he's had in our house in 22 years....we have three daughters!!! ;)
