Ike (was Isaac)

Well, it appears Ike has decided to keep us. He is allowing us to sleep on his bed (formerly our bed), he is allowing Ellie to play with his toys (formerly her toys), and he has even charmed everyone at our office. He prefers Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, Papasidos quesadilla’s, and an occasional dab of white wine from Carolyn’s finger.  He is currently unfamiliar with home cooking.

While we are not yet completely trained to his satisfaction, he is working on it. Before long however, we are going to have a family meeting where he will learn that I am the alpha dog/boss.  I intend to invite Carolyn to this meeting also.

He is a real sweetheart and we thank John, Jan and the group at GRR for their good work.

We are so happy with Wyatt.I can’t thank you enough for helping make this possible and Carolyn for taking such good care of him.  He is really a wonderful dog. Our other  dog, Poco, has really taken to him. She seems so much happier having him around. Steve and I also, it’s like our life is complete again.

The picture including a puppy is of the puppy of friends who were visiting over the weekend. It was fun having a puppy around, but we are glad we have Wyatt and don’t have to keep up with a youngster all the time!

Here is an update with pictures of Ben, who joined our family on August 1,
2005. Ben is getting along great with his new brother and sister - Sammi, a
12 year old Norwegian Elkhound and Tucker, a 4 year old Lab mix. Ben loves to play with Tucker, and cuddle with his mommy and daddy. Ben is a quick learner and will be attending obedience classes soon. Thank you for entrusting us with his care, he is a wonderful addition to our family!

Best Regards,

- Todd and Cari

Brady (was Skeet) loves to walk and he's getting to know quite well the greenbelt trails, along with the variety of wildlife that we have here in Kingwood. He really likes to chase the squirrels almost to the point where he is trying to climb the trees after them - somehow I haven't been able to convince him that he will never be able to catch them! When he first came to live with us, he was afraid of the pool and I coaxed him into trying it out little by little and now, boy does he like the pool!! We can barely keep him out of it!!! As you will see in some of the attached pictures, he has become quite an accomplished swimmer AND floater!! Although it's only been 2 months, it seems as though he has always been part of the family. We thank you again for bringing us together with such a great dog.

June 14, 2005

Hello,

I don’t know if you remember me or not but my name is Sandy and in April, I adopted Leo (who I renamed Max). I had visited in Old Town Spring and just fell in love with Leo/Max the minute I saw him. I picked him up the next week from his foster family.

Max has now been with me for 2 ½ months and just wanted to say that I am so blessed to have such a wonderful friend. My husband had just died a couple of weeks before and I was very depressed but Max walked in my house like he had been here his whole life and it really cheered me up. My family loves him and there was never a moment of adjustment – he just fit in immediately. He is a loving sweet and incredibly well behaved dog and I love him so much! He sleeps by my bed every night.

Thank you all for the work you do in finding homes for these wonderful and beautiful animals.  I wish I had more just like Max – he is the best.  I will send pictures soon.

Sincerely,

Sandy

PS from the Webmaster to Sandy. I sure do remember and we all at GRRH are happy to hear from you and Leo/Max!

June 13, 2005 -

Rascal is doing great and seems to be getting very comfortable with our home and routines. He likes to hang out in the kitchen - Charley does a lot of cooking. He likes to get brushed and hugs from Sam. He and the cat are checking each other out. He has chased her into the garage a few times, but she is still claiming her patio table. He loves to take long walks in nearby Terry Hershey park early in the mornings where he gets to meet lots of other neighborhood dogs. He also enjoyed swimming in our friends pool. His stamina has already noticeably improved.

June 6, 2005 - Luke (was Goofy) in his new home and with his new family.

It's great to have a new friend to play with!

Nothing like the smell of fresh grass.

Waiting for the family to come home.

Shelby and her new forever home.  She has a big blonde Golden brother named Charlie and his family has been easy to adjust to; in fact you will notice in the picture her immediate interest in getting on with playing in her new back yard.

April 24, 2005 - Harley

Dear Friends and Rescuers of Precious Golden Boys & Girls,

I have been slow to write to everyone about Harley, his health progress, and all the facets of his delightful personality as they are newly revealed to me each day, because I have been reluctant to admit that I am a phenomenal foster failure.  I think I knew from the moment Harley and I met, (as did the entire staff at West Alabama Animal Clinic - who laughed uncontrollably when I brought him in as my "foster") that he was special and that I would not be able to give him up. He immediately adapted to my animals (the first day, even though he was crated and separated from them). My big fat cat Leonardo fell in love with him at first sight and curled up outside the crate, constantly purring and sticking his paws through. Now that I no longer confine Harley to his crate when I am home, he and Leonardo curl up and sleep together. Giacomo, my big 115 pound yellow lab also adores Harley. And they look so great together! Their big lovable square heads, side by side - Giacomo's blondness brings out Harley's pale gold highlights. (I know I sound silly - but people do stop and stare!) When I can figure out how to use my digital camera, I will send pictures. Giorgione, the cute little mutt terrier mix with the Napoleon complex that I rescued last year when some evil human tossed him out of a car, is the only one who did not take to Harley. I think he was just jealous and afraid, but they are now hanging out together - sleeping together in fact, on my bed, with me on the edge, because I also have to make room for Giacomo and Leonardo! Harley was definitely loved and cared for by someone for some length of time, because he is so affectionate and gentle. He thinks he is a lap dog - the first day I let him spend some time out of his crate he immediately climbed onto my lap like he was a little Dachshund or Poodle. He loves belly-rubs and being groomed and he responds quickly and obediently to "sit", and "no". I found out yesterday that he is also an avid swimmer! He dove into my swimming pool when I removed his lead after a short walk. He completely took me by surprise; he hadn't shown any interest in the pool before. I had to coax him out of the pool with a treat!  I think he would have stayed there for hours. And he is the definitive "retriever"; he wants me to throw something for him to fetch so badly! He plops down shoes, balls, stuffed toys, bones, whatever he can find within his reach, at my feet and begs me to throw them, vocally - he is a talker! It will be so much fun to indulge him, when I get his clean bill of health from Dr. Rosser. He is beautiful and darling and I cannot imagine life without him. He is curled up at my feet while I am writing this. So I hope everyone will approve of my change of status from foster-mom-failure to forever-mom. I promise all of you that he will be loved and cherished and probably spoiled rotten. I promise he will always be well cared for, never have any medical problems unattended (feel free to call Dr. Rosser for my track record), he will be regularly groomed, and he will always be fed the healthiest dog food that I know about. He will also get plenty of exercise and feline, canine, and human companionship and buckets of love.

Harley's adoption papers and check are in the mail. Please remove him from the "available" list.

Best Regards,

Lynette

April 23, 2005 - Marshall

Marshall is doing very well.  He is starting to get his energy back and wanting to trot and jog when we go for walks.  He has started putting some weight back on and I think he is getting use to his new surroundings.  We have been looking around for a good vet and will get him in for a check up very soon.

The kids are having a great time and he has started really responding to his name.  No new tricks to report yet but my kids are working on teaching him how to shake.

We will take some pictures and send them soon.

April 17, 2005 - Jenna

Thank you so much for all help, during the entire week we have been in contact with the GRRH. It is refreshing to receive such a warm welcome, and such wonderful help right from the start, even though we are complete strangers.

Carey and I would like to send a little report on how our girl is doing. She was really good on the ride back to the house. Apparently she loves to ride in cars, because her head was perched out the window the entire ride. Back at the house she took a quick stroll around everything she could find, kind of like she wanted to familiarize herself with the surroundings while we put her crate together.

A "magic biscuit" appeared in the crate and she was really good about it. It seems like she already found her safe place in the house. At dinner she and Bentley shared a meal and almost competed to finish first, so they could eat the other ones food. Both of them have been really good together. Like Carey said, "It's almost like they have known each other for years." The only time there is some friction is when Jenna gets a little extra attention. You can tell that Bentley gets a little jealous, but as long as he gets scratched behind the ear, he's happy.

Carey was really happy that Jenna likes to snuggle, like her late girl Golden did. Jenna hopped right up the bed and wanted to be scratched on the tummy.

Thank you so much again. We are going to buy a digital camera this week, so we can send pictures!

April 2, 2005 - Bailey (formerly Echo)

Hello GRRH,

Just wanted to drop you an e-mail and let you know how well Bailey (formerly Echo) was doing. She is awesome.  he goes to work with my wife everyday and has quickly become the office mascot. She goes to school in the mornings with the carpool and tee ball practice in the evenings. She went to her first game today, in uniform. She has been the perfect addition to our family. Thank you for rescuing her and giving us the opportunity to >give her a permanent home.

Sincerely,

The Miller Family

Bessy and her "extended" family.

March 29, 2005 - Jake (was Cruz) and his new brother, Harley, are obviously getting along great!

March 21, 2005 - Tucker (formerly Crockett) is doing wonderfully! He spent this past weekend learning how to be a dog from  his cousin dog Leo. He had not been interested in playing with toys, but Leo did a fabulous job teaching him what to do! He is learning new things everyday and responding so very well to his clicker and of course treats!

Thank you again for the opportunity to adopt Tucker - he is such a sweet little guy!

January 8, 2005 - Fancy has a new home! She has a new "little sister" named Lucy who is only 7 months old. Mom stays at home and brother works at PetsMart. What more can a Golden ask for?!
