Rebel goes home with his new family.
We are so blessed to have both of them in our lives. Thank you so much for introducing us to Marley, things just would not have been the same around the house without her. -- the Montgomerys
Macy, the first pick of Margo's puppies, gets ready for her first Christmas.
I just wanted to let you know how well Archie has fit in with my Dad. They are just wonderful together. I do not know who is happier, my Dad or Archie. We took Archie to the River for Thanksgiving and Christmas. He did so well. He stays on the porch when we are outside and he soaks up all that he can. He loves being outside and taking walks. He is so well behaved. He gets along with my brother’s dog and they have fun running and playing together. My Dad is so protective about Archie. He lets everyone know he is HIS dog. Archie greets everyone as if he is their dog. He is so happy. He sleeps by my Dad’s bed. I know he has added so many fulfillments to my Dad’s life. We took him to the Vet for a check up and to get heartworm pills. She could not believe how good he looked and how pretty his teeth are. He is continuing his Thyroid medication and he did have a bout with allergies, but is doing fine now. We all LOVE Archie and realize this was a match made in heaven. I can not believe that someone would leave such a beautiful dog. Thank you! December 9, 2006

I absolutely adore Lorenzo! He's sooooo cute and cuddly...like a little bear! I can tell he will definitely be a "Momma's boy". He and Maggie get along just fine. They've played a little together and when they have, it's hysterical. I think he's really enjoying himself. He makes me laugh a lot each day because he goes through stages where he is either "lounging" on the bed with the most comfortable looking poses, outstretched just as far as he possibly can, and typically laying on his back with feet floating in the air, or he gets little "energy spurts" and play growls and throws and shakes balls around the house! I'm trying to teach him how to retrieve so I can throw the ball to him. He's not so much a Golden in that respect, but I bet we get him to that point :-) He's got 3 favorite toys already, and he's learning what a Kong is and how to get a treat out of it. Anyway, just wanted you to know how much we like him, and that he's fitting in wonderfully. Thank you!
Zeke enjoys gardening in his new home, and is also working on obedience training.

Hello to everyone at Golden Retriever Rescue.
We have been “cat” people for over 25 years so it was a surprise to everyone and even we were surprised when we fell in love with my sister’s Golden Retriever this past year. At first we thought we would only want a full-breed Golden, but when we saw Brookie, she was the dog for us. She looks just like a Golden, except for the bit of black on her ears, and she is small, an added plus for us, she is a perfect size. Brookie has a great personality, full of energy and always willing to please. She rarely barks and loves to walk and jump in the lake whenever possible. When we give her a bath she seems to really enjoy it, she even sits so that I can blow dry her fur. She does not, however, like to have her teeth brushed. She thinks my husband is “it;” she waits at the door in the morning after he leaves for quite awhile and whines a bit before she returns to her slumber. She has brought so much joy to our lives already, who knew a dog could be a blessing in so many ways. We have entered her in a contest. When she wins I will be certain to let you all know. Thank you
so much for allowing us to bring Brookie into our lives. She has brought our
family together and given us a reason to walk more often and enjoy nature daily,
instead of “when we feel like it.” We have met many people in our area, because
when we walk with her, she has to say hello to everyone and everyone loves her!
She is our little golden angel and we thank you very much. – September 21, 2006
Just wanted to let you know that Molly is doing "Great" What a terrific pup she is. We just celebrated her birthday a few weeks ago. Tank really enjoys her company and all doing well. She is growing like a weed and is already longer and taller than Tank. What a great pair they make. Everyone who comes into our offices, say what beautiful dogs they are!
Just wanted to let you know that we are really pleased having adopted Molly and has really fit into our life quite well! I think she swims more in our pool than we do..........What a water dog she has become.

R Villarreal

Here's my new girl "Miss
Lady" (was Shannon.) She is the love of my life. She is a wonderful dog
and I am so lucky to have her. She is very much loved by everyone who meets
her. I will recommend GRRH to anyone who is looking for a companion. Many
thanks to you and the GRRH organization for letting me have such a wonderful
dog.
Thanks,

We are enjoying
Freddie (was Thibault) so much! He is the most wonderful dog we could have
asked for. He is really a daddy's boy since Wayne is home with him all day,
and they take several ball-playing and snack-eating breaks a day. After
a slightly subdued start, he has really developed a funny, mischievous
personality. He loves to sleep on the various beds when we aren't home (we
call him Golden Locks because he tries them all,) and he likes to steal
socks and then dare you to get them back. So far he has managed to get 8 at
a time in his mouth, although only the dirty ones...clean ones hold no
interest.
Thanks for
picking him for us. He's perfect.

Issa loves children AND cats!
Issa (the former Evy) is doing great! She and the cat are even becoming friends as well! We took her to our vet yesterday and had her checked out..., he said she looked great. Thanks again for helping to bring this great dog into our lives!
Blackshirt (now Marco) and his new family.
Daisy (was Thelma) is fantastic. She walks our daughters, Lindsay & Annie, to the bus stop every day and loves to be petted by all the other kids there. She is very popular and loves all the attention. We are in our 4th week of “puppy school” at Pet Smart. The girls work with her at night to practice all of the commands. Daisy is the sweetest. She lies under my desk while I’m working during the day. She also has discovered our underground sprinkler system in the backyard and gets tremendous joy playing in the water. We have some great video of her hurdling each sprinkler head as they go off. But her favorite time of day is when the girls get home from school and play with her. She is just really a happy dog. Angie is happy with her new family.
Macy has found her forever home.
Prince, now "J.R." went to visit one of our vets, Dr. Tharp, at his Voss Road Animal Hospital and it was love at first site with Voss Road's long-time veterinary technician Susan.

Rock and his new owner. Rockie and I made it home fine. He was pretty nervous in the car at first, but I think it actually helped that we had to drive 3 hours to get back to Austin, as he calmed down a lot about an hour into the drive. By the time we got home, he was pretty mellow. We spent some time on the Greenbelt yesterday morning and he seemed to really enjoy it - there's TONS of stuff to sniff and check out, so he stayed very interested. Thank you so much for all of your help. I can't believe what an amazing dog Rockie is. He is so sweet and good-natured. I feel so lucky to have him. Thanks again!

Dear GRRH,
Here is another foster failure…but I knew it would be the minute we picked Lilly up. She has gained about 15 pounds and still needs to gain a few pounds more. We started obedience training as soon as she finished her heartworm treatment and it has helped all of us. Lilly has us wrapped around her paw and is indeed the princess of our house!!!
Kody (adopted in January or 2004) is still trying to get his new sister into the swimming pool. She has advanced to the first step on her own, so I don’t think it will be long before they will both enjoy swimming together.
All of us, and especially Kody, love her dearly and are delighted that she is a part of our family.
Thanks so much for everything.

Hi Dear People,
Jolie slept like an angel…I got up about midnight and took her out. Slept right between us and is very velvet and comfortable and cuddly. She’s eating fine. Walking well. Doing sits quite well. Counter standing is still an issue. She went out to breakfast to an outside café. Went walking on the trails here and met another dog…Was well behaved. Seems to love our very large back yard. About four people have stopped so far, practically everyone she has met, to say HOW PRETTY! Tres Jolie is a great name.
We love our Golden

May 17 - I want to give you an update on Ranger and thank you again for bringing this joy into our lives. Within a day of joining our household, it was as if he had been there all along. The cats adore him, especially our 1-year old, who mistook Ranger for the late Teddy Bear when they met and ran to him and started rubbing against his nose. She backed up a bit when she realized her mistake but Ranger was so sweet that she resumed cuddling with him after a minute or two. Flynn, our giant 9-year old Gordon Setter, is thrilled to have a buddy again. The two of them tear around the yard and tug at toys together like a couple of puppies. They are perfectly matched in size and energy level, not to mention personality-plus!
Our vet has examined Ranger and consulted with Dr. Wilbanks. Ranger’s ears are clearing up well and his thyroid is being monitored closely; soon he’ll be 100% well. We intend to make sure Ranger’s life is filled with all the fun and joy that he gives to us. We can’t thank you enough, and thanks also to his first family for making the heartbreaking decision to give him up. I hope it’ll comfort them to know that he is loved and cared for.
June 19 - Thought you might enjoy some recent photos of our handsome Ranger relaxing at his Brenham ranch! His ears are completely cleared up now and he is a happy, healthy, wonderful dog. We have been singing the praises of GRRH to everyone who meets him. June 18, 2006 Sam (formerly Paris) Sometimes the Happiest Endings are "foster failures!"
May 9, 2006 - This is an update on "Paris" to inform all of you about her health and welfare. Her first several days in her new home were quite trying for her. She was quite sick at first. We don't know what was wrong but after a short fast, patience and a visit to her new vet she seems to be much recovered. We would probably not be feeling real keen either; having been through over the past weeks what she has, from being rescued from a central Texas shelter (thanks to the Whitson's and the people at the shelter), being spayed, having an eye operation, and being in her third home in a week. We and she are grateful to GRRH for getting her on the road to recovery and for a Golden Opportunity.
We have decided to give "Paris" a new name, one that is befitting her circumstances. We think she needed a long and eloquent name to help her with her humble beginnings and a grateful one for her new beginnings. She has been christened "Samantha Butterfield Ellsworth III", "Sam" for short of course. "Samantha Butterfield" comes from James Kavanaugh's "Celebrate the Sun" dedicated "to those who take time to celebrate the sun and are grateful". "Ellsworth" for a touch of eloquence and "the third" for her new beginnings in year three. We shall give you another update after she completes her heartworm treatment.
18 June 2006 - Samantha is doing really well. She is a svelte 67 lbs, down 6 lbs from when GRRH first got her. It will be five weeks Tuesday since she underwent her heartworm treatment and the vet wants her to wait another week to resume normal activity. Normal activity means she can be walked around the block and she can be in her backyard off leash. Attached is a recent picture of Sam in her backyard.
She is such a sweet dog but still needs a lot of reassurance. We've become very attached to her. We guess you suspected that would be the case, i. e., that we would be "foster failures" and that you won't be surprised when we tell you that we want to adopt her. You can count on our continued support of GRRH. June 15, 2006

Hi Joanie! I wasn’t sure if this was you email, but I just wanted to let you know how Betsy (“Bets”) is doing. She just had her first seizure on Sunday night, but other than that, she’s doing great! J I love her so much, and I can’t believe my luck in finding her – I think it must have been fate. We’re now working with a great vet, and we’re addressing each of Betsy’s health issues one-by-one. He says that with a lot of work, we’ll be able to get Bets back to “cover-girl status” in no time! J Betsy can be very playful, and gave my 12-year-old golden at my parents’ house a run for her money! She scurries around just like a little bunny rabbit –hopping, trotting, and galloping all around our complex. She loves everyone and everything she meets, but she’s amazingly gentle. She loves the dog park and makes friends with all. She’s even made friends with the deer in our local woods! Never barking or chasing, she slowly creeps a little closer to them and then patiently waits for them to approach her! (She did want to investigate an armadillo a little too closely last night though!) Thank you for all your help in making her adoption possible. I will be in touch! - Emily P.S. – Check out the picture I attached! After a long night of playing, Betsy crept onto my friend Kat’s circle chair – what a perfect fit! May 23, 2006
Special Note: Austin and Destin were surrendered to GRRH because their owners could no longer take care of them the way that they want to and believed that they should be cared for. Following their adoption, see above, the following note was received...

Stacia & I adopted a golden puppy named Reed in November, 2004. Attached are 4 pictures of Cooper. In two pictures, he is shown with his brother and sister, Conner and Camden. He is the bigger, blond one. Thanks again for all your efforts with this cause and helping add such a happy puppy to our lives. Best regards, - Wynne May 1, 2006
Daisy is best known for giving us 10 black, half German Shepherd - half Golden Retriever puppies (see Happy Endings) a few days after joining the GRRH family. She was adopted by a wonderful family in February of 2006. Another Happy Ending:

TJ (was Carter) has been so much fun and Patti, you were right, he is so incredibly smart! He picked up potty-training right away and by day three was going to the door when he needed out. Good Boy! He lost 4 teeth a couple weekends ago and is totally in the teething stage now. So far, though, he sticks with his rawhides.
He is awesome on a leash and loves his daily walks. We try to get him down to the big community park where he can watch the ducks and other wildlife. We haven't let him swim in the lake yet, because the weather has been so crazy. He has become fast friends with our lab, Jessie. She, of course, was skeptical at first but she accepted TJ really fast. They wrestle like wolves all the time! Jessie has had two major surgeries on her rear leg and has had trouble with arthritis but one of the many perks of having TJ is that she is much more active and has a lot less trouble with her leg now. A bonus we hadn't even thought about!
We just love him to pieces and are so happy he came into our lives. He definitely keeps us entertained! All in all things are going great!
Thanks for everything and keep in touch,
- S Doyle
