I thought you might want a picture of Bridgett (formerly Meg) for your website. She had been helping us in the yard doing storm cleanup so she might look a little worn out. It was naptime! Hope all is well for you in Houston and that life has regained some semblance of normalcy.

We just adopted Damian from the Orvis store in The Woodlands this past Saturday.  He is doing great and is becoming an integral part of our family. We have renamed him “Kula,” after our first Golden, who we loved so much.  He is Kula, The Second – but that is too formal, so he just goes by Kula.  He is very smart and just wants to hang out with us. We took him to Galveston yesterday and he loved swimming in the Gulf.  He tried very hard to catch a seagull, with no success.

                          Thanks,

Hi there,

We adopted Holly from you in Dec 2006 (though she's in Happy Endings 2007)...changed her name to Scarlet.  Just wanted to contact you and let you know she is still doing well and about the happiest most spoiled little girl around.  We just love her so much.  My husband had a photographer come to his business to take some pictures of their trainers for their website...and he had Scarlet with him at the time.  The photographer couldn't resist and took a few of Scarlet...just wanted to share with you...thank you so much for helping us find this little angel!

Hope all is well at GRRH!

Thought you might like to see a picture of Reno enjoying the summer.  He seems to be settling in quite well and is such a sweetheart!  He gets a bit rough chasing the kids outside, but I never worry that he will intentionally hurt them.  He's learned our routines, and we've learned his (we don't have house plants anymore).  Reno is walking much better on a leash, has learned "down" and is working on "stay" (not an easy thing when the food is moving away from him!).  The cats have gotten used to his invasion of their "personal space" and have learned that Reno doesn't chase them if they don't run.  Of course Reno would like to wrestle with them, but hasn't figured out he's several times their size.

Hope all is going well with GRRH!

Rusty has been a wonderful addition to our family.  We did have to send him away to school for a week at “man’s Best Friend” where we learned to work with him and he learned how to work with us.  He still suffers a bit from separation anxiety, but he is very content in his Kennel when we are gone. Otherwise he has the run of the house.  He lives with 2 cats, and his best friend Candy.  As you recall Candy is a 5 year old ACK girl.  They are inseparable.

Thanks again so much for helping us to find the perfect addition to our family. Rusty now weighs 90 lbs and you can see that he has learned to love the water.

Maddie has really come a LONG way from when we got her.  I can't thank you enough for helping to save her. Walt and I have spent a lot of time working with her and giving her lots of love.  (Yep, she's spoiled). Her training sessions are finally over and her insecurities have been addressed.  She now enjoys socializing with other dogs at the park, and even getting to know other male humans. (Yeah!) Watching her learn how to play and be social with other dogs has been quite enjoyable for all of us.

Thanks again,

--- Sandy

Dear Karen and everyone at GRRH,

I can’t believe it’s been almost 2 ½ months since we adopted Amber (was Nellie), and I’m just now sending you some pictures!  Well, let’s look at it this way….we have lots to tell now…

First of all…she is such a love!  She is just so very sweet, loving and affectionate.  While she loves everyone (and everyone loves her!), it didn’t take her long to decide she was a “Mommy’s Girl”.  She follows me everywhere, and is most always at my feet.  My parents live next door, and we share two large backyards…she even follows me into their house.  She has definitely earned the “Velcro-Golden” title – or, as my parents like to call her, “(my) shadow”.   Of course the kids absolutely adore her, and she adores them as well.

We did have to make an unexpected trip to the vet on June 2nd, when she started acting strangely (going off to lie in another room by herself, depressed and very lethargic).  All tests were normal, and the only thing x-rays revealed was that she was full of pellets!  The vet says it appears she’s been shot at previously.  I just about cried – thinking how someone could shoot at such a sweet animal.  Well, since then…since I’ve seen what an avid hunter of squirrels and birds she is (her 2nd favorite thing to do besides follow me around)…I have to wonder if maybe it wasn’t a hunting accident – at least that’s what I’d like to believe.  At any rate, she’s had some rough times in the past, bless her heart.  Anyway, we finally attributed her behavior to the new monthly flea pill/preventative we had started her on the day before (Comfortis).  We gave it to her again this month and sure enough – the whole next day she was the same way.

You know, we were told when we picked her up on adoption day that she loved the pool…well, let me assure you…a water dog she IS!  She made her first trip to the country in the middle of June (where Stuart’s parents live) – it didn’t take her 5 minutes to find her way into the goldfish pond!  (See attached picture).  She also got to try her paws at swimming in the lake when we enjoyed a day trip to Lake Somerville with my brother and his family (including a 4-legged cousin) earlier this month (see attached pictures).  Then there was the day we took her out to the dog park to swim (didn’t have my camera that day).    (I’ve actually considered that this could be titled “What I Did This Summer” by Amber.)

Thank you so much for allowing us to adopt her.  We still miss our Max (I swore I heard him bark and “knock” on the back door the other day), but Amber has brought so much joy, love and laughter back in our lives – she has helped to fill that void in our hearts that he left.  We swear he must have led us to her.  We look at it this way – she has helped us heal and we are helping her heal.  The man that opens doors in the carpool line at my son’s school said it best (when she was with us in the mornings the following week after adoption)…he said, “God sends another blessing.”  Yes, He did – and now she can have her own “Happy Ending”.

Macy just turned two last month!

Austin has found himself right at home. He loves the pond and pool. I couldn't get a photo of him looking at the deer, because he loves to run up and scares them away. He is very smart and very well behaved. Since he swims a lot during the day, he is sleeping thru the night without any problems. My grandsons really love him too. He rides in the car great and is learning all about living in the country. He is not so sure of the frogs croaking and has played with a toad both nights and gotten sprayed.

Thanks again for giving us this opportunity to adopt Austin. He is a pleasure and will be taken good care of. As soon as his papers arrive we will let him meet everybody at the Vet.

I've attached a picture of Maggie so that you can all see what a beautiful little girl she has become. Don't ask me why, but I call her "Moo" and she is content to respond to either name. Gosh, it was a challenge at first ... it was so obvious that this little girl was abused. But, now she's finally "adopted" us and I truly believe she is happy with us in her new home. Russ and I adore her! She is getting her full golden coat and is a beautiful, beautiful dog! We're so glad we took the chance and so happy to have Moo as part of our family.

Thank you so much.

Just wanted to give you an update on Hesshie, one of the pups from Daisy's litter. He is now a huge 140 (lean and muscular) pounds. Because of his exceptional intelligence, easy-going personality, and loving nature, I am currently training him as my service dog which means he'll be attending college classes with me in the fall. Training is going very well, and he will be taking his Canine Good Citizen test as soon as we can arrange it. He loves his new job and going to all the new places with me.

Thought you might like to see some recent pictures, so I'm sending you a few of the best and most recent ones.

Thanks for adopting him to me, our whole family loves him and can't imagine life without our giant baby.

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to send you more pictures of Timer (was Hannah 2008). We went on a "camping trip" in early June at Yogi Bear Park. I'm sure Timer thought she had died and gone to doggie heaven. She had the time of her life. She loved all the new sights & smells, but she especially loved all the attention she got from all the other campers. Even though at first she wasn't sure about the campfire at night or the golf cart we rented to get around, she loved mostly everything else! We brought her on hikes & we got to see her swim for the 1st time. I think swimming was her favorite thing.

Hope you enjoy!

Hello everyone,

We just wanted to say Thank You all for allowing us to take Bella home with us and take care of her. She is a sweet girl, and a "funny girl", as my 5 yr old would say!  She makes him laugh a lot!

She is healthy and doing very well.  She likes to bug our 15 year old cat but she's learned to keep her distance. We often walk her to a lake nearby where she looks for ducks and squirrels.

Hello Everyone,

Here are the great pictures from the holiday. As you can tell, Val was most definitely the most patriotic dog! Val had a great afternoon Sunday, but was a little unsettled in the evening, as if he was at a "playdate" and it was past time to come home. Hopefully he will adjust quickly. He has already made friends with the Browning's cat. Their other golden is a little jealous and did not want to play when Val tried to play with him.

                                      Thanks,

Hi! We are so in love with Ms. Bella! We got her all her food and toys yesterday along with the biggest bed we could find. My bed is too high off the ground so she can't get up there unfortunately. The boys are loving her and they're already telling everyone about their "new girl doggy named Bella". She loves her new mommy too! She follows me everywhere. I can tell she was a total mommy's girl. God bless her previous mommy! I'm loving being a doggy mommy again! Thank-you!

Hi all,

Karen and Melinda both called, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate ALL of you! Your words are full of good advice and so reassuring. One thing is for sure, Luke has a LOT of good people who are loving and supporting him. And I feel your tremendous support, as well. Thank you!

Luke did much better during the thunder last night. When it first started, I laid down on the floor with him and started telling him about how our life is going to be together. Toward the end of our conversation, I was telling him how he would have to get used to a mother that talks to him a lot, because that's what I do with my baby. He stood up, ever so slowly, gently stepped over my head... and went to lay down on the other side of the room. It was right on cue... and a hoot! I guess he's a teenager!

He seems to be picking up on my habits and patterns, and beginning to trust me in earnest, in terms of going outside and knowing he's going to get to come back in when he's ready. I haven't taken my eyes off of him outside, but I never did with my other golden either. I have a 16'x20' back porch with a ceiling fan, so I sit and watch!

I thought you might like to see some pictures of my Luke, who even after just two and half days, has so many love muffin nicknames, he's probably confused... I'll have to work on that! :-)

Thanks again for everything!

Hello,

We just wanted to share with you a couple pictures of Cisco. We are enjoying him immensely and wanted to thank you for hooking us up with him. He's quite a guy!

We're learning that he is very sensitive, intuitive or whatever you want to call it. The other day we ran him up to the vet because he was acting very weird, come to find out, the vet believed he was showing signs of anxiety resulting from all the packing and such going on around the house (we even think he was a bit disturbed by the recent death of one of our birds). Silly boy, all this fuss over the packing to go to the beach for a couple of days and all along, he was going with us NOT being left behind!!!

As you can see, he seemed to enjoy the trip!  The other picture is of him in his yard.

Here are some photos of the newest member of the Naquin Family!

His name is Magic and his former home was in Texas. We adopted him into our family and are going to try and make a country pup out of him!

When he first met the pony and the chickens, he did not know what to do! I think that he thought Molly was an oversized dog! At first he barked and pounced around and then he wanted to play.
Although Rowdy is still missed very much every day, Magic has brought a special joy back into our lives. We look forward to growing with our new magical friend!

Stay tuned for more adventures with Magic!

Enjoy!

Dear GRRH:  I love going onto your website and reading the success stories…  Reading them makes me both cry and smile.

Until today, it never occurred to me to share Brewster’s story.  I fostered my beautiful (Red Boy) in March, 2006 (although in my heart the Foster lasted, 5 seconds, I knew immediately he was a keeper).  He was Heartworm positive, GRRH informed me it was quite severe, and he might not pull thru, I would wake up in the middle of the night and lay by his side just to ensure he was still breathing!

I have never witnessed such a broken spirited baby!!! His tail was between his legs for the months!  Everything scared him!  With patience, and love that I didn’t think even I was capable of, and of-course Sophie (Golden Girl) Flirting with him, he slowly settled in!  On his first few walks, he wanted to swim in the lakes on the golf course, but didn’t really know how to, he would jump in the water like he knew it’s were he belonged, but clumsily splash like a new-born, he wanted to explore the golf course, but was afraid of golf carts and swaying trees – But STOP the presses when he saw a Duck, his natural instinct took off like a split personality, he would run clear across the golf course like a steam train, the ducks would ultimately [thankfully] fly out of range of sight or smell!  He now swims like he’s training for the Olympics, and the Golf course and a nearby Lake has become an extension of the life he was destined to live –– He takes in EVERYTHING, he has such a love for adventure/life, he just can’t get enough – He’s a true Golden Retriever!

We call him The Big Lover, now at approx. 4 yrs young, his personal mission in life is to win over every human heart, he deserves an Oscar!  As you can see has turned out to be a magnificent looking boy (Brewster concurs).  He greets everyone coming thru the door with one of his favourite comfort toys, ducky, elephant or bear (his very own toy basket has too comfort toys to mention) He shares his forever home with Westie Mix - Barnaby (10yrs), and Golden Girl - Sophie (9yrs)…  Since they were all Rescues, they all have that special bond with each other…

Brew-Brew has really bad allergies, after being tested by an allergist, we discovered he’s allergic to 90% of the environment L  He’s on a regime of 8 -12 pills a day and weekly Allergy injections…  He’s none-the-wiser, he’s come to learn that every pill is followed by a yummy treat.

Brews 2008 Texas Traveling diary reads:  Barnaby, Sophie and I took the Humans camping to Lost Maples, in March, 2008, after swimming, walking and sniffing out critters for a few days, we decided another trip can’t come quick enough.  So after some Houston, home lovin’ and suburb golf course walkies - We talked them into taking us on another camping trip, in May, 2008, we chose, Pedernales Falls for the swimming and then we took them to Bastrop for the Pine trails!

I recently convinced my Mummy to take me to Galveston for the day, to watch the sand castle competition, and swim and run after seagulls.  I was also successful in encouraging passersby that I am Handsome, Loving, and full of fun, therefore cajoled passersby to throw sticks for me to swim after and retrieve!

Oh and did I tell you that I help my Mummy retrieve the groceries from the car and bring them to the kitchen!!! My Mummy has so much faith in my intelligence, she’s recently enrolled me in a meet-up group to train me to be a therapy dogJ  GRRH had faith in me, I want to share my story and provide faith and love to others!

All our love – Max and Helena

We wanted to thank the Golden Retriever Rescue for helping us find our two wonderful pets.  They are truly members of our family. After loosing our 11 year old Golden, Tucker, to cancer, we were not sure that another dog could replace him.  We checked out the GRRH website and saw that they were raising money by having a garage sale.  For some reason that day I knew I had to get to the garage sale.  That' when I met the ladies with GRRH, they brought Bear into our lives. He needed a permanent, stable home & to be loved.  We had the home and love, but needed the dog. He has adjusted beautifully and then 12 week old Nola came along.  He wasn't sure he was going to share us with Nola, but now they are inseparable.  She has a mind of her own, full of energy and has helped bring out more of Bear's personality.  We are truly blessed to have a home full of chaos, dog hair, and much laughter that these two bring our family.

We adopted Murphy on May 3, 2008 (renamed him Henry). Henry fit into our family and routine like we were his destiny. He seems to have a fondness for sleeping on couches and chairs with soft fabric, but we don't mind because he is a sweetheart. He smiles, hugs and talks to us!   Henry was found to be heartworm positive and has had his first injection which he weathered quite well. Thank you GRRH for giving us such a wonderful pooch!

Here are some long awaited photos of Happy (was Scrappy).  The story behind the two tongued popsicle sighting is that I was bringing popsicles from the kitchen to the patio, and when they both saw them, they both licked their lips at the same time, and I also happened to have my camera in hand, so I snapped a shot!  Also, what's around Sarah's mouth?  It's dirt!  She's just eaten her first experimental handful.  So I figured, water wasn't enough to wash it down.  She needed a popsicle!

Dear GRRH,

Time for a 2008 update on Lucas (was Bingo). Lucas and Lizzy play well. Lizzy our Golden Mix has become more active and that is great. Lucas loves to go for walks in the park and rides in the car. Sometimes he gets to go to daycare, where he gets to play all day with 10 to 45 dogs. He loves his extended family there. Of course Lizzy and Lucas travel with us. They frequently go to Canyon Lake with us. They spent several days during the Christmas Holiday at Surfside Beach and last summer went to Colorado with us. They love to play in the cool snow.

Hi,

Just thought I would send along a couple of pics of my new baby boy... Fraser has adapted so well to my family - as you can see we have caught many pictures of him cuddling each member of his new family and I have thoroughly enjoyed my weekend with him. My brother and I went out and bought him a baby pool that we filled with water today. He was our family entertainment for the afternoon as he jumped in and out and tried to catch the water in his mouth (as I splashed him) only to try to figure out where the water went once it hit the ground and got absorbed away... it was really funny to see. He's definitely a cuddler and my parents have had to learn that any time they stir during the night they will end up with a very wet nose in their faces as Fraser cuddles in to get some love... So things seem to be going just great. So thanks for working with us and I'm very happy to report that he's settled well and has made himself at home for sure!

Thanks!

HI GRR!

We are loving our new baby.  He has been a dream and the perfect addition to our busy family.  He is great with the kids and has been really good with the cats.  We just can not believe how blessed we are to have gotten Moses.  We named him Moses becasue our old Golden's dad was named Moses.  I have attached some pics of him and I will send more soon!!!

Hello,

Hope you are doing well. As you probably remember, we adopted Annie from "Ellie's 12" a few months ago. Also, we're SOOO very curious to see some of her brothers and sisters,  if you have any pictures of them we'd love to see them (especially Hobart)! We're sending along a few. As you can tell, the girls adore her (and she cannot get enough of them either). She's been a very perfect puppy, and we are very happy to have her in our family!

 Warm regards!

Hi...

A picture of Maisy relaxing today with her stuffed bone.  Hope you guys are doing well!!  We are all doing great!!  Loving every minute of Maisy!  We noticed a bunch of new Goldens on the GRRH website - - knowing Madison, we just wanted to know how many of them are currently residing at your house - - we might need to make boarding arrangements for Maisy if you have fosters, we know.  Just let us know.  I have a feeling that the great boarding facilities book early!!

Take care!!

Hello!

I’m finally sending you some recent pictures of Katee along with one of Katee and Madie.  Katee has been such a wonderful addition to our family.  She gets along great with Madie as well as our children, Grace and Carson.  We have just loved having her!  She is doing extremely well here in her new home.  She loves to play in the back yard!  Since the weather has been so nice lately, we just leave our back door open.  Katte and Madie just play in the back yard all day long.  Hope to see you all some time soon.  Hopefully we’ll be able to make it to the Spring Bark in May!

Thanks for all of your hard work with these wonderful creatures!
