This is already a brighter day!
[Photos are updated. And see below for NEW medical & foster updates!]

I am a 4 year year old golden, and I'm grateful to be leaving a troubled past behind me.

You see, I was originally confiscated as part of an animal cruelty investigation by BARC, the City of Houston's Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care. And from that shelter, I was rescued and welcomed into the GRRH Family.

I'm a very sweet and loving boy. I've enjoyed the loving and kind attention that I've received, and I'm looking forward to a very fresh start on life!

Unfortunately, I've got quite a number of health issues that need tending. In addition to sarcoptic mange, my skin is also severely infected. I've got ear infections and and a condition where my lids turn inward and irritate my eyes.

I'm also heartworm positive.

It will take some time to overcome these medical issues, and I will be ever so grateful to you for your support... if you are so moved.

Consider sponsoring a portion of my treatment? No donation is too small to help me!

Consider sharing my story with others. I will appreciate the emotional support. And

And last but far from least...

Consider opening your heart and helping me envision
The Beauty that is Me.

May 13, 2011 Update: Photos 1-8 above were taken today! My fur is growing in nicely, as you can see. My skin infection and mange are clearing, and I am no longer contagious. I am free to socialize with both people and other dogs, and I am loving it!!! I love the freedom of a romp through the green grasses, but it doesn't compare to sitting at your feet for the loving!

May 19, 2011 Update: After six weeks of treatment for other ailments, I am finally healthy enough... to be neutered today. [ouch] I also had surgery to relieve my entropion condition (eyelashes growing inward to my eyes and causing irritation). I did well in surgery and am recovering nicely in a wonderful and loving foster home. Ahhhhhh....  Doc says I need to wear "the cone" when unsupervised, and my activity should be limited for a couple of weeks. I will return to see him in 10-14 days to have my eyes and... ahem... checked. Once cleared from these issues, I'll begin heartworm treatment.

July 21, 200 Update: I was recovering really well from my surgeries and treatments, when suddenly I began to whimper with pain... I went back to the doctor for more tests, and then ultimately diagnosed with a bacterial infection in my spinal cord. If I had to sum it up in one word: OUCH.

Treatment includes antibiotics for a period of 6 months. And once I'm well, I can begin my heartworm treatment. I know none of that sounds good, but keep reading... My story gets better!

In the beginning, my mobility was greatly affected, but now I can scale stairs and run around the yard without any visible issues! If I hadn't shared this, you would never guess that I have overcome what I have, nor that I continue to fight this infection. I get around great, and I am happy and playful!

Check out my new photos! My fur and feathering is growing back, and my skin is in great condition!

I'm completely house trained. I've never had any kind of accident in the house. I'm learning all sorts of new commands. My Foster Dad and I are trying to keep my activity at a lower level, but I do really enjoy going for walks. I also get the idea of fetch and will chase things short distances in the house, and bring them back.

I love people, but I'm a calm boy... and I don't get overly excited upon seeing them. I've not been around other dogs, other than on my walks... but then, I show only passive interest.

I am in Heaven with the attention, affection and care that I've received. And I'm incredibly grateful. I'm a very, sweet, happy and content boy...

And I sleep well at night, for the first time in my life! No worries!
